40 weeks pregnant: Fast facts
Your heavy-as-a-pumpkin baby probably weighs about 7 1/2 lbs and is about 20 inches long.
As cozy as the womb is, your baby can't stay inside you forever. For safety reasons, your provider will induce labor if your baby isn't born soon.
When your water breaks, it means the amniotic sac has ruptured and labor is imminent or already under way. There may be a big gush of fluid, a small burst, or a slow leak.
Your baby's head may look a little pointy after birth. That's normal – and temporary.
How long will you be at the hospital after birth? It depends: typically 24 to 48 hours after an uncomplicated vaginal delivery and 2 to 4 days after an uncomplicated c-section.
our site mom advice: "The most important thing about getting help after your baby arrives is to ask. Be very specific about what you need – and of course be sure to say thank you."
